A fragrant old-fashioned garden plant, whose fragrance grows stronger in the evening, Night Phlox is an African native which has been grown in western gardens for decades.

The silvery wooly foliage of this cousin of the carnation is reminiscent of mullein. Dating to the 1600s in England, the plant is prolific, and will freely self-seed.

An early bloomer, Siberian Squill has popped up under the cottonwood tree and throughout the back yard, along with the crocus.
